50th anniversary

On Sunday, August 4th, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of moving to the facilities we now occupy
as Church on the Bluff. We won’t celebrate like out 125th anniversary, but we will make it a special
day…with a covered dish meal afterwards. Plan on coming and bringing friends and neighbors!
Relocating a church is a huge decision and requires much prayer, effective leadership, and a people with
a vision for what the Lord will do in the future. But if you think about it, the everyday workings of a
church require the same things, or the church begins to slow down and kind of “plateau”. This is not
criticism because every church hits plateaus in ministry. The key is whether or not the “leveling out”
becomes accepted. As I look around, I find that not to be true at Church on the Bluff. We haven’t been
satisfied with mediocrity; we’ve always wanted to do better and be more of what God wants us to be.
For the past year, maybe longer, there has been an air of excitement and plenty of activity. New faces,
new families. The Spirit of the Lord has been active, and people can feel that. There is an air of
expectation with everything we do. So, let’s celebrate what God has done in this location and let’s
celebrate what He is going to do here.
Will we explode into a mega church with hundreds attending every Sunday? Who knows. But I
personally think that there are enough gigantic churches around. I think that Bluff Park and surrounding
neighborhoods could use a smaller church that loves them, ministers to them, enjoys praising God (even
through those “old” hymns) and teaches the true doctrines of God’s Word. We don’t have to be like
every other church…we just have to be the church that God formed us to be. We are Church on the
Bluff and we are on this mountain for a reason!
Say good things about your Savior and His church on this bluff.
